Las capas de la Ciutat Vella

Editorial Design
25 cm x 32 cm, 13 pages.

This publication was created during a five days workshop, “Time Capsule” by Patrick Thomas. During this week we investigated the ephemeral aspects of the city of Barcelona. Observing and identifying objects, colours, persons, smells and many other things that are endangered
of disappearing as the city evolves. The publication reveals different layers that compose the Ciutat Vella district, and how they interact with each other. The historical layer presents itself in form of text, revealing significant historical events of the city which shaped the district. The architectural layer presents itself in form of maps, illustrating how the district grew, changed and evolved through time. The visual layer presents itself in form of cut out pages of ripped overlaid posters found in the Ciutat Vella area. It depicts a visual element that is very present in the current scenery of the district.
Each layer was printed in a different technique. The historical was printed with an Inkjet printer, the architectural are Risograph prints and the visual was printed with offset and glued together.
The goal of the publication is to create a memory of this time and place for future generations.
